Marked by rhythmic vitality and inspired by the creation of unexpected sounds, Foundry is adventurous and melodic, breaking through barriers of style with their enthralling performances. Led by composer and steel pan virtuoso Andy Akiho with bassist Samuel Suggs, cellist Mariel Roberts, drummer Kenneth Salters, harpist Kathryn Andrews, percussionist Ian Rosenbaum, and violinist Domenic Salerni find innovative ways of blending new sounds, jazz, reggae, Caribbean, and Soca, with contemporary classical techniques. The diverse septet traverses genres and boundaries, leading its audiences through sophisticated harmonic and melodic motion.
An exemplary ensemble of classically-trained, forward-thinking performers, Foundry represents the future of new music, and explodes with excitement, energy, and creativity. Foundry has represented the US in the 2012 International Drum Festival in Taiwan, performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, the Noguchi Museum in New York City (presented by Bang on a Can), and National Sawdust in Brooklyn, among others.
